2022 Outstanding Leader Award Finalist
Karen Martin is the co-lead the Vancouver construction and infrastructure group, and the co-lead of the national construction disputes group at Dentons Canada LLP.
Consistently recognized as one of Canada’s leading construction and infrastructure lawyers, Karen has deep technical and legal background and expertise in the construction industry. Her practice focuses on giving strategic advice to solve project issues, and where disputes arise, helping clients to resolve those disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation.
As a young professional, Karen was inspired by Justice Beverley McLachlin. Although, she did not have any female mentors in the profession, she had a handful of male mentors who took on the business of breaking down gender barriers to help her succeed. Now, Karen hopes to pave the way for women in the infrastructure sector. She is involved in many professional associations, including the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers. She is a mentor to the next generation of infrastructure lawyers at Dentons, as well as others in the BC bar, and often shares her knowledge and insight as a guest lecturer at post- secondary institutions.
Karen’s career has been exemplary, incorporating technical expertise, leadership, mentorship and community involvement. She is an extremely well-respected leader in her field.
